The Mava Field School takes its name from the Xhosa word Mava, meaning experience. The school is dedicated to preserving and passing on indigenous knowledge — especially traditional craft skills through participant research and creative conservation.

The knowledge documented by the Venda participant-researchers was shared with a group of 16 predominantly artists and designers, who drew from this and the collection of Venda craft at the Ditsong museum to inspire their own creative projects.
Game Jam

An exciting cross-disciplinary creative jam that brought together students, independent creators, and individuals from design, storytelling, architecture, cultural heritage, and technology. Over three days, they collaborated to create innovative, playful projects exploring the intersections of culture, storytelling, and interactive media.
Umhlangano

A queer-led gathering responding to a shared longing for connection, belonging and meaning beyond commercialised or exclusionary spaces. Inspired by Pride 2025 and the legacies of queer elders who understood community as a spiritual practice, uMhlangano co-creates spaces that honour spiritual expression through shared reflection, music, conversation and open offerings.
